Italian Leather Sofa by Cake
I have to be honest here. I’m not a huge fan of Cake. I thought I was. When I think back to the days of the mid 90s to early 00s I can hear echoes of something that sounds vaguely Cake-like and can recall enjoying it. Hell, even bobbing my head. These memories ended up being a web of horrible lies. The truth is I did give them a listen once or twice and while there were some songs I did enjoy, for the mostpart they just weren’t totally my thing at the time. There was just so much of John McCrea saying “Alright” and “Here we go” in every song that I could take, you know?
So why this song? Good question. The reason I’m giving you this song is because I love Mission Hill. If you haven’t seen Mission Hill, go to the store and buy the DVD. Don’t bother downloading it. Trust me, it’s worth it. It was an animated series created by Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein, the executive producers of The Simpsons back in the days when it was something you could watch and LAUGH at instead of just rolling your eyes and ignoring it like we all do today. It was about a group of quirky people who lived in this really hip area of the city. They go through their lives, conflicts, all of that. ANYWAYS…the theme to Mission Hill is an instrumental version of this song, Italian Leather Sofa. And since the song creates a mental link to that show for me, it is one of the few if not only of Cake’s songs I could listen to again and again. Enjoy.
